Who can teach
Teaching is not open to everyone, and that is the point. Reaching Expert makes you eligible to apply as a Teaching Assistant. Reaching Master and completing the Teaching Practicum makes you eligible to apply as an Instructor. Eligibility is not a seat: seats are capped so that every class gets real attention.
Setting up a class
- Pick a course, or teach from your own plan.
- Set start and end dates. Three weeks is the recommended minimum.
- Share the six-character join code, or invite students by email.
- Publish one assignment per week with a brief and a rubric.
- Open a class collaboration when you want everyone in one session.
Grading
Grade against the rubric you published, not against the best submission in the cohort. Write feedback that tells the student what to change next time. A graded assignment awards XP automatically and may unlock the student's next rank.
Duty of care
Accounts marked as under 18 require guardian consent before they can post publicly or join a class. If a safeguarding concern arises, use the reporting path immediately - do not attempt to handle it privately. Student work belongs to the student; do not republish it without written permission.
The membership perk
Teach a class of at least 5 students over at least 3 weeks and see it through to completion, and a 12-month membership grant is issued to your account. Claim it from your teaching dashboard; it applies to the BandLab account you have linked.
Moderation authority
Every rank carries an authority tier. You can never act on a user whose tier equals or exceeds your own. Escalate rather than work around it.
